Before the Snow

Today, the weather started out decent.  It was partly cloudy and the sun was peaking out trying to warm things up.  I decided to do a little rockhounding down by Hwy 505 south of Toledo.  I arrived at the parking spot a little after 11:30am and headed through the brush to the small creek where I was lucky to find an 11 pound piece of petrified wood previously. (See Short day Big Find)

I started at the same spot where the 11 pounder came from and decided to move a few of the ferns that were hanging over the bank.  I should have done that on the first trip, but?? mistakes happen to everyone.  There in the rocks was another large piece of petrified wood.  It weighed in at 9 pounds.

This looked like it was going to be a good day.  I headed up the creek and found a few small pieces of carnelian, but nothing more.  I came to a smaller side creek and after passing it I noticed that the rocks in the creek were getting quite small.  I did find a couple of pieces of carnelian, but nothing worth all the effort of busting the brush.

I continued on for another half hour before heading back to the small side creek and checking it out.  This creek, even though it was quite small, contained quite a lot of jasper.  I did find one nice sized piece of petrified wood and some decent looking jasper.  I put them in my bag and headed back to the truck.

This is the best that I found today.

Nice looking material.

Nice looking material.

I was changing out of my boots when it started to rain pretty hard.  By the time I got back to the freeway it was snowing heavily, and it snowed all day Tuesday.  I think that is great timing.

Thanks for joining me again.
