Congleton Hollow.

It was very cold this morning as Chuck, Becky and I set about fixing breakfeast, and getting ready for our trip to Congleton Hollow.

Camp

A Very cold morning in camp.

On our way to Congleton Hollow, we drove through the beautiful Crooked River Valley. ?It was very interesting to see the results of the cold temperatures in the fields being watered.

Frozen

It's cold out there.

We fianlly arrived and Congleton Hollow, parked the truck in the shade and got our equipment ready.

Parked

Getting our equipment ready.

Before heading out, I showed Chuck and Becky what to look for. ?I then sent them off by themselves, while I headed a short distance from the truck to spend the day digging. ?My blisters were still a little painful, and I was determined to spend the day in one spot. ?Here is the spot I chose, and the few pieces of limb cast I found after digging a little while.

Pink Limgs

These were some of the best finds of the day.

These limbs were about 2 feet under the surface, and I probably spent about 2 hours digging for them. ?The hole didn’t seem very big when I finally gave up.

Dig Spot

Digging in the dirt isn't to bad if there is some shade. Here there wasn't any.

The sun was starting to get hot on my back and I was getting restless, so I gave up on digging and headed into the hills. ?After a short hike I ran into Chuck and Becky eating lunch. ?They showed me what they had found, and I explained that my blisters weren’t hurting all that bad. ?We then continued hiking. ?I don’t know how far we hiked but we didn’t find enough nice pieces to justify that much effort.

We ended the day at the truck and did some digging in the small creek gravels near the truck.

Creek Gravel

Digging in this gravel is not as easy as digging in the dirt.

I did find one small limb cast but after about an hour we gave up and headed back to Elkhorn Camp. ?We fixed our suppers and I headed down to the pond where I was able to get a few pictures of the geese.

Geese

Taking off.

This ended our day, and we again spent some time around the campfire discussing plans for following day.

Thanks for joining us.

Looks like some nice chunks of wood you found! Hope they clean up and show great color. That was a small hole you dug by the stump, just goes to show that there is material to find, just get into the ground and find it.
