Tahoma Agate OH MY!

Garry was finally able to accompany me to our claim. ?We headed out on Labor Day and spent a beautiful cool day on the slopes.

Garry

It is as steep as it looks.

We didn’t get started as early as other times but we arrived at the claim in plenty of time to spend a good day digging Tahoma Agate. ?Then disaster seemed to take a hand, I was unable to find my wallet. ?After two hours of turning the truck cab inside out, and calling the last place I stopped , I ?finally set about canceling my credit cards. ?I decided to check the cab one more time, and found the wallet under the rear passenger seat at the back of the cab. ?How it got there I’m not sure, but I was sure glad to find it.

The seam I worked was on one the steepest spots I have ever dug.

Cliff

Cliffs abound.

This seam was one we had previously worked, but it looked like it might produce some nice material.

Tahoma Agate

The beginnings of a nice seam.

I had to move quite a few large boulders, but finally exposed a good portion of the seam.

Tahoma Agate

The seam is at the head of the paleo pick, and is 3/4″ thick.

Garry was one ridge over from me and had found a thinner seam that he was working. ?That is him in the opening picture.

We worked these seams for a couple of hours and then had to head home.

It was good to get out again and we both really enjoyed our time.

Thanks for joining us.

You are definitely right about that spot you worked being on a VERY steep slope. But the real problem is how far you fall if you slide down a few feet. I looked over the edge where I was digging and figured it was between 100 to 200 feet straight down. It didn’t bother me while I was working the vein (with my back to the drop-off), but when I turned around to leave I couldn’t believe I was only about 2 feet from certain death if I slipped………That being said, it was a beautiful day to be out. I need to remember to bring the rope next time we go there!

Hi, I live in Greenwater, Wa, and love the Greenwater River for rock hounding. I need to learn how to find the “seam”. I would love to find some blue opals. I would love to join you sometime as well.
