Skokomish in the Spring

Mild winters equal low river levels leading to lots of gravel to check out..

Skokomish River

River levels are way down.

Garry and I headed up to the Skokomish River to look for orbicular jasper. ?The major roads to access the river are still closed for wildlife protection, but we were able to hike almost a mile down the canyon walls to reach the river. ?The hike was through some beautiful wooded areas.

Garry

This old growth cedar is just HUGE!

Upon reaching the river and getting into our waders, it didn’t take long to find some nice japser/agate. ?This one lucked out, ?it is to big to haul anywhere.

Jasper/Agate

One very large boulder.

Jasper/Agate

The back side.

Dreaming about being 50 years younger, we reluctantly left this one behind and continued our hike up the river.

Garry

Checking out the river rocks.

This area had some monster log jambs that made it difficult to check out all the gravel.

Log Jamb

A formidable obstacle.

We were not the only ones to spend this beautiful day on the river. ?Two guys were?checking out the water. ?They were?Steelhead fishermen hiking down to their pickup point.

Fishermen

Garry talks over the exploits of these two fishermen.

We spent a little more time on the river, but both of us had to get back to town for prior appointments. ?So we struggled out of our waders and headed back up through the woods. ?Finding some more interesting sights on the way.

New growth

New tree using mom for a resting place.

Thanks for joining us.
