That first half day was a good one. You and Mark found some neat material and I found about a 2″ wide vein of white onyx and a really neat vein of quartz crystals about 3 or 4 inches thick (some with really nice points on them) – I’ve never seen a “vein” of quartz crystals before.

Garry: I agree on Mark’s find, and the variety of agate, jasper and wood equated to “sensory overload”. Our next trip may not only be dry but also hot.

That limb cast I found was a lot like Hampton Butte green material. Should polish up nicely.

I picked up quite a few pieces of “blue” agate that turned out to be “grays” once I got them home. Still nice agate though. I think my favorites were the yellow and black combos.

It would be hard to find a bigger piece of agatized wood than the one Mark found. I like that second picture of the rocks in a bucket. It shows the great variety of agate, jasper, & pet.wood. It sure was dry for only being April, but it was also nice not to have rain for a few days – like we do west of the Cascades.

fosldog: The ticks came from that area. We also dodged the cows, but the ticks came from the sage brush and grass. Apparently they were waiting for us to come along. This is the first year we have had this many ticks bothering us, and it was only in this one area. Washington blood must be a little tastier or sweeter.
