HIKE OF THE MONTH
Siouxon Creek Trail #130
Siouxon Roadless Area
This hike is can be accessed from two locations along Road 5701. The first entry point is at Mile marker 1 and can accommodate horse trailers. The next access point is 3 miles farther and is smaller.that leads through a magnificent Douglas fir forest past 4 beautiful and spectacular waterfalls Forest Service Parking Permits are required at the parking areas for this trail so be sure to pick one up.
We hiked this portion of the trail suring the fall of this year and took the included photos. Our hike was consisted of a parking at the second access point and hiking 3 miles upstream to the confluence of Siouxon and Wildcat creeks, and then returning. This portion of the trail offers views of five major waterfalls and a green plunge-basin pool.
This time of year was especially beautiful, with the leaves turning brilliant yellows and reds. The creek was at a low water level and we were able to get right down to the creek. It was to cold to swim but the scenery was great. During our hikes we met others who were also enjoying the trail.
The 12 mile trail is has an elevation difference of 2200 feet so to hike the entire trail you need to be in pretty good shape. The short portion we hiked was fairly flat though so it could be considered easy. This trail is not wheel chair accessible but it is well-maintained, although there are a few spots that are a little muddy.
The trail is suitable for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The trail has access points on both Road 5701 and Road 58 so you can park a vehicle at both ends and enjoy a good hike without having to backtrack.
